Working as a Physical Education Teacher (PET)
A PET (also called PTI in many state schools) teaches PE theory, runs practicals, coaches school teams, keeps equipment and grounds usable, and owns the sports calendar. It is not only “games period”.

A normal week (school reality)

Qualifications — read the notice, then the degree
- Primary / upper primary: often D.P.Ed or C.P.Ed — D.P.Ed
- Secondary: often B.P.Ed from an NCTE-recognised programme — B.P.Ed
- Senior secondary / college: often M.P.Ed; college posts usually need NET as well — M.P.Ed
- TET / CTET / state TET only if that advertisement requires it
- NIS or sport-specific coaching is extra, not a substitute for the teaching degree the notice names
Where jobs are advertised
- State education / RSSB-type boards — Rajasthan PTI (official-only)
- KVS, NVS and other central school systems (their own notifications)
- Private CBSE schools: demo lesson + interview — interview outlines
Preparation that is actually useful
- Print the last official advertisement you can find for your target board. Train the physical events listed there — 8-week outline.
- Written PE: anatomy, training, yoga, rules at “explain to a class” depth — use CBSE units as a spine.
- Keep original sports certificates; photocopies fail at verification.
- Check NCTE recognition of your degree now, not after the written exam.
