PE teacher interview preparation
Panels listen for whether you can run a safe period, include weaker students, and organise intramurals without losing the school’s equipment. Memorised slogans about a “bright future in sports” do not help.
Questions and outline answers
1. How do you start a lesson with 40 students and 8 balls?
Split into four groups; extra students at a cone doing a shadow skill; rotate every 90 seconds. Never let 32 students wait in a line for one ball.
2. A student refuses PE.
Check medical note. If none, offer a modified role (scorer, peer coach) for that day and speak to the class teacher. Humiliation is not a strategy.
3. How do you include a student with a mobility impairment?
Change the target, the distance, or the implement. Seat them as an official with a real task. See CWSN unit.
4. How will you run annual sports?
Walk through the checklist: entries, fixtures, first aid, results. Name committees.
5. Difference between intramural and extramural?
Intramural: within the institution. Extramural: against other institutions. Aims differ (participation vs higher performance). Unit 1.
6. How do you assess PE?
Skill checklist, fitness test record, observation of fair play, practical file. Not only a theory paper.
7. What would you do in extreme heat?
Shorten the lesson, water breaks, shade, postpone running finals. Follow school policy.
Documents to carry
Degrees, experience letters, sports certificates if genuine, a one-page sample lesson plan (template), and a short intramural circular you have written.
