CBSE school games: a PE teacher’s working checklist
CBSE sports (often called CBSE Games) are run from circulars issued to affiliated schools, not from blogs. This page does not publish registration dates, a sports list for a given year, or “registration open” status. Those lines live in the circular.
What the circular is for
It tells principals and PE teachers how students from CBSE-affiliated schools enter cluster / zonal / national level competitions: eligibility, age groups, documents, online portal steps (if any), and which disciplines are offered that year.
School-side process (typical — confirm in the PDF)
- Principal nominates a PE teacher as the sports in-charge.
- Students’ names, class, date of birth and sport are checked against school records (not against a coaching academy certificate alone).
- Documents commonly demanded in past years: school ID, birth proof as specified, photographs, parental consent, medical fitness if asked. Copy the list from this year’s circular.
- Entries go through the school, not through a student’s personal WhatsApp to CBSE.
Age categories and sports list
Do not memorise last year’s under-14 / under-17 cut-off dates. Age is calculated as the circular states. The list of sports changes; taekwondo, athletics, basketball and others may or may not appear in a given circular.
Documents folder for the PE office
- Printed circular + highlighting of deadlines
- Student list signed by class teacher / principal
- ID and DOB proofs in the format named
- Travel and escort plan if the cluster venue is away
How this connects to PE teaching
Selecting a school team is not the same as intramurals. Intramurals belong in Class 12 Unit 1 and the school tournament checklist. CBSE games are an extramural, affiliation-based championship.
