How to build a CBSE Physical Education practical file
Schools differ slightly in the file format they stamp. The structure below is what examiners can mark quickly. Confirm your school’s internal assessment circular before you bind the file.
Learning objective
Finish a file that a stranger can match to you: your scores, your photographs, your handwriting or typed pages with your name on every sheet.
1. Cover and index
- School name, session, class, roll number, subject code as on the CBSE registration.
- Index with page numbers. If the examiner cannot find the fitness test, you lose time in the viva.
2. Certificate pages
Leave space for the PE teacher’s signature, principal’s stamp and the date of internal assessment. Do not photocopy another student’s signed certificate.
3. One major game or sport
Pick the game you can demonstrate. Write:
- History — origin and the Indian governing body in 6–8 lines. Do not paste a Wikipedia dump.
- Fundamental skills — name, purpose, 3 teaching points, one common error (for example in basketball: “watching the ball during the dribble”).
- Court / field — labelled diagram with dimensions. Use the current school-level dimensions your teacher uses; if you are unsure, write “as per current official measurements — verify from the association diagram” rather than inventing numbers.
- Rules you can officiate — scoring, start, fouls that appear in school matches. Keep it to one page.
- Terminologies — 10 terms with one-line meanings.
4. Athletics or yoga block
If your school asks for athletics: one track event and one field event, with approach, execution and recovery. If yoga: asanas listed in the current practical syllabus, with contraindications (when not to perform).
5. Fitness test record
Choose the test your school actually conducted (often SAI Khelo India / school battery items, or tests named in Class 11–12 “test and measurement”). For each test write purpose, equipment, procedure, scoring, and your result with the date.
See fitness assessment in schools and Class 12 Unit 6.
6. Photographs
Four to six photos: you in PE kit, performing a skill, a marked court, and the fitness test. Blurry phone photos are acceptable; stadium stock photos are not.
Common mistakes
- File written entirely by a senior last year, with a different game than the one you play in the viva.
- Dimensions copied wrongly (a volleyball court labelled with football measurements).
- Fitness scores with no date, so they cannot be tied to the internal assessment week.
Revision points
- You must be able to draw the court from memory.
- You must explain your fitness score (what the number means).
- You must name two safety rules for your event.
