PE practical viva: what examiners actually ask
A viva is a short conversation. Examiners check whether the file is yours and whether you can keep students safe. Answers should be 20–40 seconds: definition, one example, one safety point.
Game / sport
- Name two fundamental skills and one common fault in each.
- How does a rally or a point start in your game?
- What is the duty of a referee that a player cannot do?
- Draw the playing area and mark the positions you used this year.
Fitness test
- Why did the school choose this test (which fitness component)?
- List the equipment. If you say “stopwatch” you should know who starts it.
- What would a very low score suggest — lack of practice, injury, or a recording error?
Yoga (if in syllabus)
- Name an asana and two contraindications (for example, inverted postures after recent neck injury — follow your teacher’s medical guidance; this is not medical advice).
- Difference between asana and pranayama in one sentence each.
First aid and safety
- RICE for a mild sprain: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation — and when you stop and call a doctor (deformity, numbness, suspected fracture).
- Where is the first-aid kit during your sports day?
Fixtures (Class 12 overlap)
- Number of matches in a knock-out of N teams: N − 1.
- Number of matches in a single league: N(N − 1)/2.
- What is a bye? Why is it given?
Worked examples: Class 12 Unit 1.
How to practise
Ask a classmate to point at a random page of your file and fire two questions. If you look at the page before answering, that page is not yours yet.
