Sports rules for school events

International rule books are long and change. For a school annual sports day you need a format that finishes before sunset, keeps children safe, and can be explained in two minutes. Official federation rules still apply for inter-school championships — download those from the relevant association when you host a recognised event.

School sports event formats lists heats, relays, knock-outs and modified games that fit a single ground.

School day vs federation match

On sports day you may run a 50 m dash with a standing start and mixed ages. In an athletics federation meet you cannot invent that. Write your intramural rules on a one-page notice so officials and parents share the same version. For inter-school CBSE events, the sport’s current laws plus the CBSE circular apply — CBSE games checklist.
